Equipment are gear and weapons that help enhance character attributes in addition to dressing them up. In both Ragnarok Online and Ragnarok Online II, players progress through many different sets of gear and weapons on their journey to max level.

Ragnarok Online[]

In RO, each player character can equip the following:

  • 3 headgears (high, middle, lower)
  • 1 garment
  • 1 armor (full body)
  • 1 footgear
  • 1-2 weapons (depending on the job class)
  • 2 accessories
  • 1 ammo (depending on the job class)

Visually, players can only display their headgears and garment on their sprites. There is also an option to hide their equipment window from other players by unchecking the Show Equip box.

To equip ammunition, players must place the items into a hotkey space and then click the corresponding hotkey to equip the ammunition. Equipped ammunition will display over the character's face in the equipment window. To unequip ammunition, right-click the item in the equipment window. Ammunition must be unequipped prior to being stored.

Broken Equipment[]

In RO, equipment can be either broken or destroyed. If a piece of equipment is destroyed, it is gone forever. However, if the equipment is simply broken or damaged, it can be restored for re-usability. To repair a broken or damaged equipment, one can either use a Blacksmith's Repair Weapon skill for repairing weapons or utilize a Repairman to repair both weapons and gear.

Gear Switch[]

In 2017, the equipment window was enhanced with gear switching functionality. This feature allows players to equip two sets of gear onto a character and switch between sets via hotkeys. The default hotkey to switch gears is Alt + Space. There is a 10 second cooldown between gear switching for balance purposes.

Ragnarok Online II[]

RO2 StatusWindow2

The Equipment window in RO2.

In RO2, each player character can equip the following:

  • 1 headgear (high)
  • 1 upper armor
  • 1 lower armor
  • 1 hand armor
  • 1 footgear
  • 1-2 weapons (depending on the job class)
  • 5 accessories
  • 1 ammo (Archer class only)

Unlike RO, players can also equip up to 5 cards in the Card tab to further enhance their characters' abilities. Middle and lower headgear are available in the game, but they can only be equipped as costumes.

Durability[]

Each piece of equipment in RO2 has a durability value (most common being 100). Equipment durability lowers when involved in combat or from fall damage. If a piece of equipment's durability value falls to 0, all the effects of the equipment is nullified; it would be as if it is not worn at all. To prevent durability from falling to 0, equipment must be regularly repaired by a Repairman located in major towns and cities.

Costumes[]

To hide stat equipment, players in both RO and RO2 have the option to wear costume gear that covers stat equipment, allowing players to customize the look of their characters while still being able to perform effectively with their desired stats. Unfortunately the developers have come under fire from players for putting effects on what was meant to be display-only gear, effectively trivializing the purpose of costume gear. The costumes system went from being an appearance customization feature to simply allowing players to wear 2 sets of stat gear.
