Some troubling information recently came to light. In a blog post by Audn of the iRO2 community, a comment was left behind bearing this snippet:

iRO2 wasn’t suppose to be released on May 2013 and the reason it got released early was because the China partner during that time was evaluating the game. One of the reasons iRO got colo before the Culvert Abyss update.

Unfortunately for Gravity Co., the China partner wasn’t too impressed with the game performance and the content and as announced on November 2013, the license agreement was terminated. As a result of this, Gravity loses $20 million.

And…as a result of that..we got AoV earlier than expected and that update pretty much destroyed the game.

And…..as a result of AoV wrecking the game, on April 2014, the Phillipines partner terminated the license agreement for RO2. Gravity loses another $3 million.

And………….as a result of this, the jump event was implemented in hopes of getting PH players to play on iRO2. This was purely a WP decision, not Gravity Co. Oh yeah..this also resulted into unwanted zeny sellers. Note that Gravity Interactive “allowed” the spammers to exist.

tl;dr – Gravity is in trouble.

Information added by Flash2k6 of the iRO2 community seems to confirm this:

However this statement says otherwise!

On page 34 as part of the "Business Overview" (bold text added by me) it says: "We have license and distribution agreements for Ragnarok Online II with five third-party licensees in seven countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Brazil. The total value of the license and distribution agreements for Ragnarok Online II with respect to Japan, Vietnam and Brazil in which jurisdictions the game has not been commercially launched, is US$20,640 thousand as of the date hereof. Our license and distribution agreements for Ragnarok Online II with licensees in China and the Philippines were terminated in November 2013 and April 2014, respectively. We are in the process of finding alternative arrangements to distribute the game in China and the Philippines as of the date hereof. Ragnarok Online II represented 8.8% of our total revenues or Won 4,211 million (US$3,991 thousand) in 2013 and less than 1% of our total revenues in 2012. See ITEM 3.D. "RISK FACTORS—RISKS RELATING TO OUR BUSINESS—If we are unable to consistently and timely develop, acquire, license, launch, market or operate commercially successful online and mobile games in addition to Ragnarok Online, our business, financial condition and results of operations may be materially and adversely affected."

So GRAVITY knows that they've been making bad decisions regarding the development of Ragnarok Online II. They know and they've been losing TONS of money because of those bad decisions. So why is it that they continue to make bad decisions and losing money? The Advent of Valkyrie update should've never been implemented. If they had developed RO2 the way it should've been developed instead of rushing through it so carelessly, they would've had a much better game that publishers would want to host and players would want to play. Yes, they wasted time on Gate of the World, but not spending the same amount of care for Legend of the Second has cost them even more.
