Elements are properties that can strengthen, weaken, or nullify attacks when they interact. Every player and monster in the Ragnarök game series has an element and, with the exception of the neutral element, every element has both strengths and weaknesses to other elements.

The term "element" is often used interchangeably with "property" and "attribute".[1]

Ragnarok Online[]

In RO, there are ten different Elements. Some attacks, such as the melee attacks of monsters, have no element and are completely unaffected by elemental modifiers. Such attacks are referred to as being non-elemental.

  • Neutral - Basic Elemental Property. A large portion of skills/monsters are Neutral property. Neutral has no elemental weakness, but the Ghost property is not as effective against it as the rest. All weapons, unless specified, are of the Neutral property.
  • Water - Opposite of the Wind property. Water does the most damage to Fire property monsters/armors, and is weakest to the Wind property. Weapons can be forged with the Water property using a Mystic Frozen.
  • Earth - Earth is damaged most by the Fire property, and does the most damage to the Wind property. Weapons can be forged with an Earth property using a Great Nature.
  • Fire - Fire is the opposite of Earth, and does the most damage against it. Water does the most damage to Fire property monsters/armor. Weapons can be forged with the Fire property using a Flame Heart.
  • Wind - Wind is weak to Earth, and does extra damage to the Water property. Weapons can be forged with the Wind property using a Rough Wind.
  • Holy - The Holy element is weak against the Shadow element, and does extra damage against the Shadow element. Weapons can be temporarily enchanted with the Holy property using the Priest's Aspersio skill, while armors can be blessed with B.S. Sacramenti and Royal Guard's Piety skill.
  • Shadow - not to be confused with the Demon and Undead types. Shadow is the opposite of Holy, and does the most damage against it. Cursed Water temporarily enchants weapons with the Shadow Property.
  • Ghost - Ghost is only weak to the Ghost element.

Damage Tables[]

In RO, Elements can be grouped into two types: attacking and defending. Defending elements are separated into four levels; the resistances and weaknesses of a defending element are amplified relative to its level. Attacking elements are not separated into levels.

Players have both an attacking and defending element, which are both naturally Neutral, but can be changed by equipping certain weapons and armor, using certain skills or items, or compounding certain cards. A player's defending element is always Level 1.

Monsters have only a defending element, but can inflict elemental attacks using skills.

Column is based on the attacking element and row is based on the defending element.

RO2 ElementChart(by sylmaril)

Element Chart courtesy of Sylmaril.

Originally, RO2 Elements mimicked that of RO in that monsters were attributed elements similarly to RO Elements (water, earth, fire, wind, poison, saint, dark, psychokinesis, and death). Despite Elements being part of the game's programming since launch, they were never actually enabled in the game. With the Advent of Valkyrie update to RO2, every monster in the game now possesses one of 5 different Elements.

  • Earth - The elemental forces of Nature. (Green Plant)
  • Life - The elemental forces of Creation. (Blue Angel)
  • Thought - The elemental forces of Chaos. (Violet Night) On iRO2, this element is localized as Sinister.
  • Firmament - The elemental forces of Order. (Yellow Day)
  • Ruin - The elemental forces of Destruction. (Red Demon) On iRO2, this element is localized as Destruction.[3]

Unlike RO where elemental weapons can be found, RO2 has it so element fragments drop from monsters. Using these fragments on weapons will permanently enchant the weapon into a specific element. Since inventory space is a major issue in RO2, a special element fragment can be acquired to remove an element from a weapon, allowing players to change the element of their weapon at will.

In RO, elemental resistant effects can be acquired from monster cards. But for RO2, elemental resistance is strengthened by investing points in the WIS stat. Unlike RO, elemental resistance in RO2 can be quickly adapted to any element that the player's weapon takes on.

Damage Table[]

RO2's Elements do not have levels. Column is based on the attacking element and row is based on the defending element.
